Strata Ink Primaries Collection 30ml size

$48.00Price
  • Strata Ink Primaries collection consists of 3 bottles of ink one 30ml (1 oz.) bottle of Falls Creek Red, one 30ml (1 oz.) bottle of Mayan Blue, and one 30ml (1 oz.) bottle of Chamisa Ochre yellow.

Falls Creek Red pigment is hand foraged in the Clackamas River Valley in Western Oregon. The source of this pigment is a soft clay rich rock. Over several days these rocks are hand ground and levigated to select for the finest pigment particles. This ink is very lightfast.

Mayan Blue pigment is made from a natural plant derived indigo powder that is precipitated onto a white clay. The indigo powder and white clay are hand ground and chemically bonded in a process developed by the ancient Maya people in what is today known as Mesoamerica. This ink is very lightfast.

Chamisa Ochre pigment is a combination of hand foraged chamisa lake pigment and hand foraged yellow ochre. The flowering chamisa was harvested in a small valley in Central Oregon then transformed into a lake pigment through a multistep process. The yellow ochre was gathered from the Clackamas River Valley in Western Oregon. This ink is moderately lightfast and should be stored in a dark place sunlight. The ochre component is very lightfast, but the lake pigment component may fade over time in strong sunlight.

These three inks will make beautiful greens and oranges as well as many other colors. Because the Mayan Blue is a cool blue and the Falls Creek Red is a warm red they will not mix into a purple. Instead they will blend into a grey much like combining Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine blue in commercial watercolors.

The ink is packaged in 30ml (1 oz.) clear glass bottles capped with a glass dropper lid. The pigment is hand mulled on a glass slab with watercolor medium for a smooth consistency. The pigment in the ink naturally settles over time. Shake before use.

The ink is suitable for use with brushes. It can also be dropped directly onto paper and then diluted with water or combined with other water-based paints and inks. The ink can also be dropped into a palette and used as a wet watercolor paint. If the ink dries in the palette it can be rewet for use in the same manner as a dry watercolor paint. Please watch my ink video tutorials for more information about how your inks will arrive, how to use oxgall to counteract floccing, and how to blend the inks.

The ink is all natural, but not suitable for consumption. Keep away from pets and unsupervised children.
